Developed by NIST scientists Rodney W. Leonhardt and David J. Livigni, the system can calibrate power and energy meters for use with 248-nm krypton fluoride excimer-laser beams. The instrument consists of standard isoperibol calorimeters with a fused-silica beamsplitter. The divided beam is sent to the meter under test and to the calorimeters, which provide the standard. The resulting calibration has an uncertainty of only 2%.
