• High-stability laser to detect gravitational waves

A large-scale Michelson interferometer with arms several kilometers long, each incorporating an optical delay line, will be used to detect gravitational waves as part of a French-Italian project named VIRGO. The interferometer will be pumped by an ultrastable diode-pumped Nd:YAG slab laser.
