Machined AlumiPlate plating is available for creating low-scatter mirrors for carbon-dioxide laser applications. The electrodeposited aluminum layer of 99.9% pure aluminum can be diamond-machined to a surface finish that is two to four times better than can be achieved with uncoated A16061 mirrors. On-axis parts have been turned to 1.8 nm rms, and off-axis mirrors have been turned to 3.6 nm rms.
