E-Tek to supply optical components to Alcatel Submarine Networks

E-Tek Dynamics Inc. (San Jose, CA) has signed a multimillion-dollar three-year agreement with Alcatel Submarine Networks (Clichy, France) to supply Alcatel`s subsidiary, STC Submarine Systems Limited (Greenwich, London, England), with high-reliability optical components such as isolators. The components will be installed in under-ocean telecommunications-systems equipment designed for unattended operational lifetimes of 25 years. Increased transmission of voice, video, and data over the Internet are behind a rise in submarine-system installations.
