Plastic optics

Oct. 1, 1998
Injection-molded precision optical components are made of acrylic (PMMA), Apec, polystyrene, polycarbonate, or Topas plastic materials with surface qualities from 50/40 to 80/50. Surface accuracies are available from l/4 to l/20 wave. Singlet lenses include array, aspheric, biconvex, biconcave, cylindrical, Fresnel, meniscus, plano-convex, and other types with diameters ranging from 0.1 to 3 in. and center thickness from 0.02 to 0.8 in. Prisms are also available, with size lengths up to 1 in.
