Coated sapphire optics are available with quality required for laser applications. The substrates have surface scratch-dig qualities of 10-5. This quality makes the components useful for intracavity optics. Coated sapphire mirrors and output couplers are suitable in high-power applications, such as in 2.94-µm Er:YAG lasers.
