OCLI, Hakuto end joint venture

After just a year and a half of operation, Hakuto Co. (Tokyo, Japan) has sold its share of a joint venture back to Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. (OCLI; Santa Rosa, CA). Hakuto-OCLI Co. Ltd., which had been equally shared between the two companies since April 1997, will now be called OCLI Asia Co. Ltd. and will continue to operate from its headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and its manufacturing facilites in Isehara, Japan. The joint venture was formed to import, manufacture, and distribute OCLI`s thin-film coating products and materials. Hakuto said sales had been stable, but the drop in the value of the yen was hurting the joint venture.
