Birmingham, England--The UK Photonics Cluster is partnering with Laser Focus World and Industrial Laser Solutions magazines to present a day-long seminar on the global market for lasers and laser-based systems, May 7, 2004, at the Aston Science Park. The material presented is based on the annual review and forecast survey conducted by Laser Focus World.

In addition to a review of the global laser markets by Stephen Anderson, editor-in-chief and associate publication of Laser Focus World, Industrial Laser Solutions editor David Belforte will provide a detailed analysis of trends and applications for industrial lasers and systems worldwide. The seminar will also feature a talk by Stuart Woods of Southampton Photonics (Southampton, England) on the market for fiber lasers and a tour of the Photonics Cluster's on-site facilities, with demonstrations of key systems within the Photonics Application Centre. The day-long event will conclude with a "meet the editors" discussion forum featuring Anderson and Belforte, where participants will have the opportunity to query the editors on everything from market information to technology advances.

The Laser Marketplace Seminar is one of many events planned by the Photonics Cluster to help member companies increase their business opportunities and, ultimately, sales and revenues. The Cluster evolved out of the Midlands Photonics Cluster, which was established with the support of the Innovative Clusters Fund in November 2000 and is now the fastest growing business network dedicated to supporting the photonics industry in the UK.
