Candela founder Horace Furumoto dies

July 9, 2007, Wayland, MA--Medical-laser manufacturer Candela regrets to report the passing of the company's founder, Dr. Horace Furumoto, on June 28, 2007 in Wellesley, MA.

July 9, 2007, Wayland, MA--Medical-laser manufacturer Candela regrets to report the passing of the company's founder, Dr. Horace Furumoto, on June 28, 2007 in Wellesley, MA. He was 75 years old.

Dr. Furumoto co-founded Candela Corporation in 1970 to supply custom lasers to the scientific community. Widely credited with the development of clinical pulse dye laser technology, Candela entered the medical arena in 1981 under Dr. Furomoto's leadership.

"Candela's history is rooted in Horace's scientific achievements. His vision shaped the aesthetic laser industry as we know it today. On behalf of our Company, I extend our deepest sympathy to the Furumoto family," said Gerard Puorro, president and CEO.

Dr. Furomoto earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Ohio State University and held various positions at NASA and Avco prior to the founding of Candela Corporation where he served as president and CEO until 1990. He then went on to found Cynosure in 1991, where he served as president and CEO until his retirement in 2003.
