JDSU delivers one millionth pump laser to Adva Optical Networking
Milpitas, CA--JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU; TSX: JDU) today announced that Adva Optical Networking (Munich, Germany; FRANKFURT: ADV) is the recipient of JDSU's one millionth 980 nm pump laser. The diode lasers are used to pump erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs).
The latest JDSU pump laser, called the SP platform, emits up to 660 mW of optical power, or more than four times the power of the first pumps JDSU introduced over a decade ago. The increase in performance is needed to support increasing bandwidth demands.
"Unlike most other system vendors, we design and manufacture our own modules," said Christoph Glingener, CTO at Adva Optical Networking. "JDSU has been a key optical-components supplier to Adva Optical Networking over the past decade and we appreciate the reliability and value that JDSU pump lasers deliver."
JDSU provides communications test and measurement instruments and optical products for telecommunications service providers, cable operators, network equipment manufacturers, enterprise customers, and mobile operators. The company also provides optically based medical/environmental instrumentation, as well as optical equipment for semiconductor processing, display, brand authentication, aerospace and defense, and decorative applications.
