Nashua, NH--Top analysts from leading market research firms Solarbuzz and Gartner are scheduled to speak next January at the 2011 Lasers & Photonics Marketplace Seminar in San Francisco, CA. They will be covering the solar / photovoltaic and semiconductor equipment market segments respectively.

Dr. Finlay Colville, senior analyst at Solarbuzz (London, England) will discuss the technologies driving the tremendous rise in photovoltaics equipment spending today, as well as forecasting trends during 2011 and beyond. Colville will pay particular attention to opportunities for photonics-based revenues within the solar/photovoltaics industry, including both laser tools and instrumentation.

And with the record breaking growth for both semiconductor and equipment markets behind us, the big questions looking forward are: what will future industry growth look like, and how has the industry changed as a result of the recession? Bob Johnson, Research VP, Semiconductor Manufacturing will present Gartner's current outlook for both the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment markets, with an accent on current production and technology trends. Who is investing, and where is new capacity coming from?

Other speakers at the seminar include Dr. Shahram Hejazi, venture partner at BioAdvance (Radnor, PA) who will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing optical molecular imaging; Strategies Unlimited (Mountain View, CA) senior analyst, Vrinda Bhandarkar who will provide an update on the markets for high-brightness LEDs; and Prof. Dr. Reinhart Poprawe from the Fraunhofer-Institut für Lasertechnik (Aachen, Germany) who will deliver the Keynote Address: "High-Power Diode Lasers: The ultimate source for economic photons in the next decade."

The Lasers and Lasers and Photonics Marketplace Seminar will also feature a Technology Forum introduced and moderated by Dr. Tom Hausken of Strategies Unlimited entitled: "Quantum cascade lasers for mid-IR applications: pro vs. con." Panelists include Dr. Tim Day of Daylight Solutions (Poway, CA), Dr. Robert Afzal of Lockheed Martin Laser Systems (Bothell, WA), Dr. Ken Kaufmann of Hamamatsu (Bridgewater, NJ), and Dr. Lars Hildebrand of Nanoplus GmbH (Gerbrunn, Germany).

Hosted by Laser Focus World, Strategies Unlimited, and Industrial Laser Solutions, the Lasers and Photonics Marketplace Seminar will be held January 24, 2011 in San Francisco, CA in conjunction with SPIE's Photonics West. The annual seminar provides the only applications-oriented review of global laser markets coupled with business and technology trends focused on the optoelectronics and photonics markets.
