January 16, 2008, Ilminster, UK--Gooch & Housego has launched a new company that brings together five leading players in the photonics industry under the Gooch & Housego brand name.

The launch will see Gooch & Housego UK, Cleveland Crystals, NEOS Technologies, Landwehr Electronic and SIFAM Fibre Optics joined as one company with headquarters in the UK and offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia. The move comes 60 years after Archie Gooch and Leslie Housego collaborated to form a company that would emerge as a leader in precision optics and crystalline materials.

"The launch of this new global offering is a hugely positive step for Gooch & Housego, our customers and the industry," said Gooch & Housego CEO, Gareth Jones. "It will enable us to enhance the products and services we offer and is key to driving the next phase of growth of the business. Internally it will open up new opportunities, including the creation of senior positions in North America and the Asia Pacific region as we grow our global presence."

The integration involves five companies: Gooch & Housego UK, the world's leading manufacturer of acousto-optic Q-switches; Cleveland Crystals, an expert in the growth and application of non-linear crystals and a specialist in the fabrication of large aperture KDP and KD*P optics; NEOS Technologies, a manufacturer of complimentary acousto-optic technologies; Landwehr Electronic, a designer and manufacturer of high-frequency microelectronics for laser control systems; and SIFAM Fibre Optics, a specialist in the design, manufacture and supply of fibre optic solutions.

"As well as seeing us meet the market demand for reduced supplier numbers and simplified supply chains, our global integration as Gooch & Housego will enable us to better leverage the combined skills from across the organization to develop new products that will enable us to enter new markets," Jones said.

The new company will debut at Photonics West 2008 (stand #1013), delivering a comprehensive portfolio of customized optical components to the global industrial laser, bio-medical, defense, and metrology market places.
