Maia, Portugal--Multiwave Photonics will transfer its low power products, technologies, and business to its sister company MWTechnologies to enable it to pursue the corresponding business opportunities on an exclusive basis.

José R. Salcedo, founder and majority shareholder of Multiwave Photonics, stated, “This transfer will allow the completion of the ongoing restructuring of Multiwave Photonics. From this moment on, Multiwave Photonics will become a contract R&D company focusing on high-power fiber lasers and fiber-based devices. For the low power and singlemode fiber-based module products, the manufacturing capabilities were transferred to MWTechnologies, and for the high-power MOPA pulsed fiber laser products have been transferred to Datalogic.”

Founded in 2003, Multiwave Photonics manufactures optical fiber sources, with special emphasis to pulsed fiber lasers. The company has been addressing a broad market, including materials processing, LIDAR/LADAR, remote sensing, imaging, and instrumentation. The low-power products to be transferred include single-mode fiber laser modules, ASE broadband and narrowband sources, Er and Yb optical amplifiers, and compact laser diode drivers.

Miguel Melo, co-founder of MWTechnologies, said, “The conclusion of this agreement enables an immediate entrance into the market with a range of products with internationally proven quality and reliability. The MWTechnologies team already possesses a deep knowledge of all products making possible a quick and smooth transition that enables a continuous response to all Multiwave customers. We are grateful to Multiwave for making it possible and to Dr. Salcedo by his full cooperation and support in this process.”
