Necsel (Milpitas, CA), which makes lasers for projection, specialty lighting, medical, industrial, and life sciences, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire PD-LD (Pennington, NJ), which makes communication, stabilized-module, and VBG glass technology. Vladimir Ban, PD-LD founder and CEO, said, “The PD-LD board of directors is pleased to have overseen the growth of the company from its inception to an industry leader in communications and VBG glass technology. The announcement was made on the eve of SPIE Photonics West so the companies could discuss plans with their customer base. The merger is expected to close in March 2016.
PD-LD is a photonic packaging company that specializes in pigtailed and receptacle mounted fiber coupled laser diodes, LEDs, detectors, high-power pulsed lasers, and bi-directional devices for the optical communications, test equipment and medical industries. It has been successful in developing a Volume Bragg Grating (VBG) technology for numerous applications.
