Privately held Sheaumann Laser (Marlborough, MA) has acquired Axcel Photonics (Marlbourgh, MA), a sister company, in a stock and cash transaction effective January 1, 2015. Sheaumann Laser has broad based technology designing and delivering custom high quality DPSS, flashlamp, and fiber-coupled laser modules and equipment, while Axcel Photonics is a multidiscipline semiconductor laser manufacturing company.

Management of Sheaumann expects that the combined team will be able to expand into areas previously beyond their singular capabilities. John “Gary” Sousa has been named President of the merged company. He has served as President and CTO of Axcel, and has an extensive experience in management and technical support in the laser field.

Sheaumann Laser was founded in 2005 by Jim Hsieh, a pioneer of the packaged semiconductor laser industry and founder of Lasertron. The company operates within an 18,000 sq ft manufacturing facility. Axcel Photonics, which was founded in 2000, was acquired by Jim Hsieh, in 2005.
