BMW shows motorcycle laser headlight and helmet head up display

The BMW K 1600 GTL concept motorcycle has a laser headlight and is on display at the North American Auto Show

The BMW K 1600 GTL concept motorcycle is host to the latest in laser illumination -- specifically designed for future motorcycle safety. The technology, borrowed from BMW’s 7-Series and i8 counterparts, shoots bright-white light, making the most of the small space available on a motorcycle. BMW doesn’t plan on sending these into mass production just yet, but it’s expected that laser lighting will be more prevalent on motorcycles before it’s seen on entry-level cars.

The Laser Focus World take:
Since BMW first announced its plans for laser headlights on cars, we've been watching and waiting. A beautiful version of the BMW i8 with laser headlights was on display at LASER World of Photonics, in Munich, back in June.

Now we have the BMW K 1600 GTL concept motorcycle with a laser headlight, on display at the North American Auto Show, held January 11-24, in Detroit. An added bonus is the head up display helmet. The display projects vehicle information like tire pressure, engine speed and vehicle speed into the field of view, as well as traffic and hazard information.
