    Among the 1995 winners of the Queen?s Award for Export Achievement is Spectrum Technologies Ltd. (STL, Bridgend, England), a manufacturer of industrial laser systems for advanced manufacturing applications. The award comes just more than a year after STL underwent a management buyout. In 1994, the firm?s two executive directors, Peter Dickinson and Robert Briggs, acquired 80% of the share capital from British Aerospace PLC (BAe), which retained a 20% holding in STL. The company was formed four years ago by BAe and currently has 20 employees.

    Spectrum Technologies? main product line is the Capris range of laser-based wire-marking and processing systems. The firm?s customer base includes Boeing, Deutsche Aerospace, Smiths Industries, Augusta Helicopters, and BAe?s own Military and Commercial Aircraft Divisions.
