Portable diode laser

Dec. 1, 1995
A fiber-coupled diode laser capable of providing from 100 mW to 12 W is contained in a carrying case about the same size as that of a notebook computer. The laser is suitable for soldering, micro welding, sintering, cutting of thin films or tissues, or other material-processing applications using a wavelength of 980 nm. The system comes with a battery or ac adapter. Optical power is delivered through a 400-µm-diameter fiber. The laser can operate CW or pulsed.
