Coherent ramps u¥production of high-power diode lasers
Coherent Laser Grou¥has completed work on a 10,000-square-foot diode laser manufacturing facility at its Santa Clara headquarters. The new facility will bring together all diode laser processing, packaging, and testing facilities under one roof. The space is part of a multimillion-dollar investment made by the company for production of high-power semiconductor lasers. Coherent plans to expand its diode laser shipments this year. "Our entry into the manufacture of lasers diodes has been well received by the market, and we are rapidly ramping u¥our production capacity," said Sandra Todd, laser diode product manager.
Separately, Coherent and BM Industries (BMI; Evry, France) have agreed to collaborate on the development, distribution, and technical support for ultrafast amplifier systems. Coherent will assume worldwide distribution and technical support for BMI`s Alpha 1000-kilohert¥regenerative amplifiers and will distribute and service a complete set of BMI accessories. Distribution in France will continue with BMI, and both firms will provide distribution and support in Japan. Colin Seaton, Scientific Business Unit marketing manager at Coherent, said, "The BMI-Coherent alliance provides customers with an experienced and reliable source for systems solutions in all major ultrafast amplifier domains."
