Vixel to focus on Fibre Channel storage
Investors, including Mayfield Fund, Menlo Ventures, and Herb Alpert, have purchased the portion of Vixel (Bothell, WA) located in Colorado and formed a new company, Cielo Communications (Broomfield, CO). Vixel will continue to focus on Fibre Channel storage interconnect hardware and software for the storage networking market, while also pursuing opportunities in the gigabit-Ethernet market. Cielo, which has a fab for VCSEL production and expertise in transceiver design, will focus on gigabit applications in the data and telecommunications markets. The separation of Vixel into two independent entities is intended to allow each company to focus on its respective target markets.
