Velo3D (Campbell, CA) has developed the first titanium-dedicated laser additive manufacturing system to be used solely for aerospace and defense applications. One of these systems has been purchased by Primus Aerospace (Lakewood, CO), a contract manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense, and space original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Primus has joined the Velo3D partner network with the purchase of a Ti6Al4V Sapphire metal additive manufacturing system.

Primus Aerospace is a top-tier supplier for the majority of aerospace OEMs, including Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, and Raytheon.

The partnership will enable Primus Aerospace to deliver unique design freedom and highest-quality additive manufacturing services to its customers. Using the Velo3D manufacturing solution, Primus is looking to unlock powerful design and manufacturing capabilities that will enable the realization of previously unattainable geometries and optimized solutions as well as the exploration of novel aerospace applications.

Primus Aerospace expects to take delivery of the laser-based titanium Sapphire system in the first quarter of 2021, and will begin offering titanium laser printing at its facility located in Golden, CO.
