Nuburu expands its leadership team

Nov. 19, 2020
The industrial blue laser manufacturer has appointed technology industry veteran Guy Gilliland, Ph.D., as CEO alongside photonics executive Chris Baldwin as CFO.

High-power, high-brightness industrial blue laser maker Nuburu (Centennial, CO) has appointed Dr. Guy Gilliland as CEO and Chris Baldwin as CFO.

For 20 years at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG; Boston, MA), Gilliland led the firm's global and North American technology practice and advised several of the world's largest telecommunications, technology, electronics, and photonics companies. He has a background in laser physics and served as a postdoctoral fellow at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center (Cambridge, MA) and a faculty member at Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ) and Emory University (Atlanta, GA).

Baldwin joins Nuburu with nearly 30 years of financial management experience across the photonic, telecom, and medical device industries. He most recently served as the CFO at Axsun Technologies (Billerica, MA), which develops and supplies MEMS-based photonic engines for medical imaging and industrial spectroscopy, and helped manage the company’s sale to Excelitas Technologies (Waltham, MA) in 2019.

Gilliland and Baldwin bring a combined 50 years of global technology experience and have each served as senior leaders in high-profile companies within each of their core industries, explains Mark Zediker, Ph.D., founder and Board Chairman of Nuburu. “Their appointments will set Nuburu up for continued growth and innovation as we look to increase adoption of our technology across key markets,” he says.
