Barnes Aerospace to invest $20M in Singapore manufacturing operations

Feb. 20, 2018
The company's investment will include laser welding and 3D printing technologies.

Barnes Aerospace, a business unit of Barnes Group (Bristol, CT), is continuing its comprehensive worldwide plan to invest capital in both its U.S.- and non-U.S.-based capabilities in support of several ramping customer programs. As part of that plan, the company will invest more than $20 million to expand its manufacturing operations in Singapore to increase its capabilities in the Asia market. This investment will provide an additional 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space, as well as equipment and machinery.

Barnes Aerospace has a long-established presence in Singapore where its operations support the global aerospace industry with the production of engine component parts and repair services. The company's current investment will provide Barnes Aerospace Singapore with the latest manufacturing technologies and processes, such as five-axis milling and grinding, electron beam and laser welding, and 3D printing. The additional capabilities will support increased production of critical engine components for ramping engine platforms that power the world’s newest single- and twin-aisle commercial aircraft.

Singapore is a major aviation center in Asia, so the additional investment in innovative technology will advance the company's worldwide manufacturing strategy, according to Michael Beck, senior vice president of Barnes Group and president of Barnes Aerospace.
