Trumpf holds laser metal fusion system consignment contest

Sept. 26, 2018
In support of the growth of additive manufacturing research, Trumpf will hold a contest to consign TruPrint 1000 LMF systems.

In support of the growth of additive manufacturing research, Trumpf (Farmington, CT) will hold a contest to consign TruPrint 1000 LMF (laser metal fusion) systems. The system, with its 100 × 100 mm build volume and its 200 W laser, has uses in research given its compact footprint, open parameters, high-resolution printed parts, high processing speed, and the simple and intuitive operation.

The contest will be open to colleges, universities, and research institutes in North America. Up to three winners will be selected to receive a TruPrint 1000 system for a 12-month period. Within that timeframe, the company will provide those selected with training and support on the system. To apply, applicants must submit a paper explaining their research objectives if they were to receive a TruPrint system for their research lab. Deadline for submissions is December 15, 2018.

Following the submission process, papers will be reviewed by a jury of Trumpf experts and an industry representative. On the jury will be Dr. April Cooke, additive manufacturing specialist at Trumpf, Dr. Marcus Lau, Industry Manager, Scientific at Trumpf, and Dr. David Saint John, director of innovation and advanced manufacturing at Linamar (Guelph, ON, Canada).
