Electric bike produced with additive manufacturing runs first lap

Laser additive manufacturing specialist CRP Group is supporting the development of the Ego Corsa electric motorcycle.

Laser additive manufacturing specialist CRP Group (Modena, Italy) is supporting the development of the Ego Corsa electric motorcycle from the Energica Motor Company (also in Modena). The motorcycle will be used by racing teams at the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, which will start in 2019. The first rider on the track to use the bike will be New Zealander, MotoGP commentator, and 500GP winner Simon Crafar.

The Energica concept came from the eCRP 1.4, the runner-up World Champion and European Champion electric racing motorcycle. On the design of the bike, the CRP Group's additive manufacturing technologies developed for the aerospace and F1 industries played a key role, as the design team was able to shorten the time-to-market and the timing of the research.
