Laser micromachining specialist NSI Laser has opened a laser machining job shop as part of its newly established App Lab.

Laser micromachining specialist NSI Laser (Fremont, CA) has opened a laser machining job shop as part of its newly established App Lab. The company uses an empirical approach to assist customers with laser processing challenges such as recipe development, process refinement, and optimization. With the use of production systems, the manufacturability of the process is also tested.

The company offers advanced laser machining capabilities for a large variety of printed circuit board (PCB) materials, including ceramics, glass, metals, and many composites, according to Dr. Yung Kuo, senior laser applications engineer at NSI Laser.

Today's high-end PCBs require high-frequency circuit materials, creating new challenges for process development. Now, the company is equipped to take on the challenges of these materials to develop processes for micro-via holes with well-defined dimensions, Kuo says.

The company's systems perform a variety of processes such as etching, drilling, skiving, and routing, and can handle most mixes and volumes.
