Jenoptik acquires automated manufacturing solutions provider Five Lakes Automation

Aug. 23, 2017
With the acquisition, Jenoptik will become an integrated specialist for metal and plastic processing.

Laser machine supplier Jenoptik (Jena, Germany) has acquired 100% of complex automated manufacturing solutions provider Five Lakes Automation (FLA)—a company that plans and designs automated production lines and integrates them in a customer's environment, including all production systems. With the acquisition, Jenoptik will become an integrated specialist for metal and plastic processing.

FLA provides services and products around process engineering and implementation of automated manufacturing solutions, including design, system layout, simulation, controls hardware and software design, robotic handling systems, and transfer devices. The company has specific expertise in joining complex metal components (particularly welding systems), and its customers include US car manufacturers and automotive suppliers.

Jenoptik's US location is in Novi, MI, close to its new technology campus in Rochester Hills. FLA contributes comprehensive experience in handling devices and integrating individual production systems into automated process lines.

Jenoptik's Automotive Division in Novi manufactures production metrology and 3D laser systems, which are integrated into customer production lines as part of process optimization and automation. They machine plastics, metals, and leather with maximum efficiency, precision, and safety.
