EWI will be hosting a special workshop to be held January 30-31, 2008, at its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. The one-and-a-half day workshop will address current industry needs stemming from the rising cost of nickel. Many users of stainless steel are evaluating alternatives to address the burden of nickel surcharges, and understanding the affect of a transition to alternative materials is crucial.

The workshop will host speakers from Ryerson Tull, Allegheny Ludlum, Dean Corrosion Technology, and The Ohio State University, as well as EWI's own engineers. Topics will include current market trends, material weldability, specific weld processes (resistance, arc, and laser), corrosion, computational modeling, cladding, and the industry's future. A tour of EWI facilities will also be conducted.

Chris Conrardy, vice president of technology and innovation at EWI stated, "Increasing material cost is a significant issue for many industries. EWI is excited to offer this workshop to help companies understand the implications of using lower-cost alloys."

Pre-registration is required. Early-bird pricing is available through the end of December 2007. Registration deadline is January 29, 2008. The complete workshop agenda, speaker biographies, and registration details are available at www.ewi.org/workshop. Space is limited.
