September 21, 2007--Offered by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Engineering Professional Development, the Laser Welding Certificates distinguish individuals who have received formal training and satisfactorily completed a written examination covering laser welding equipment, process procedures, and validation. The knowledge and experience demonstrated through the completion of the certification requirements are critical for success in implementing the laser welding process.

A primary objective of the program is to establish a rigorous, independently evaluated level of accomplishment, so that any individual who receives a University of Wisconsin-Madison certification will be capable of writing equipment and process procedures, writing technical data sheets, performing calculations and diagnostics to confirm correct operation of the equipment and the correct performance of the laser process, and validating the laser and process per ISO, FDA, and/or AWS standards/guidelines.

Two certificate options are available. The LWPSM-Accredited Laser Welding Professional certification acknowledges an applicant who is the primary technical professional involved in the design, engineering, and/or management of laser welding parts, assemblies, or operations. This certification requires the applicant to hold a baccalaureate degree.

The LWTSPSM-Accredited Laser Welding Process Technical Support Provider certification acknowledges an applicant who is the technical support provider responsible for the hands-on set-up, calibration, and operations of the laser welding process.

The course Laser Beam diagnostics is being offered on October 22-24 and the four-hour course Laser Welding Certification Refresher is being offered October 24. The Laser Welding Certification Examination is being offered on October 25.
