Rofin-Sinar acquires 80% of m2k-laser

March 19--Rofin-Sinar sees the acquisition as a wat to strengthen its technology base and market position in the component sector.

March 19--Rofin-Sinar Laser GmbH, an affiliate company of Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc., has acquired 80% of the common stock of m2k-laser GmbH in a cash transaction. Further terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

The remaining 20% of the common stock of m2k-laser is still hald by the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Munich, Germany, and two former founders. Dr. Marc Kelemen, one of the founders, will be responsible as managing director for operations.

The company was founded in 2001 as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Solid-State Physics in Freiburg, Germany. m2k-laser develops and manufactures semiconductor lasers based on the III-V compounds GaAs and GaSb.
