Coalville, Leicestershire, UK - In recent times, the economic climate has continued to be a challenge for many sectors of the UK’s manufacturing base, with order books thin and the future unclear. Against this backdrop of uncertainty, Leicestershire-based Winbro Group Technologies has been bucking the trend, the company says, by securing new business, creating additional manufacturing jobs at its Coalville site, and also opening a new US facility.
Winbro Group Technologies develops cooling hole technology for aero- and land-based turbine engines. The company headquarters in Coalville serves customers in 16 countries and supplies UK-manufactured laser, EDM, and ECM turnkey machining systems and engine components produced within the company’s WAM (Winbro Advanced Machining) facility.
The continued growth within Winbro is a direct result of new orders for machining systems for both the home and export markets, says the company. Over 20 new manufacturing jobs have been created so far this year, taking the total number of employees in the UK to 116. Winbro’s expansion plans include the consolidation of its four individual buildings, currently occupied on Whitwick Business Park, into a new purpose built facility in the near future.
The success within the UK has been mirrored by the opening of a new technology and development center in the US. Located in Rock Hill, S.C., this new facility is within 30 minutes of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. On October 29, Winbro welcomed city, county and state officials, including Governor Mark Sanford, to announce its new site.Winbro Group’s Managing Director, Rob Folwell speaks positively of the future: “We continue to feel inclined towards further investment as we align ourselves with the needs of our customers. Expansion is taking place in the UK as well the US - our initial investment in South Carolina is expected to generate 25 new jobs in the short term with further development and additional jobs planned once the plant is fully operational in January 2011.”
Winbro is off to a strong start with new employees at Rock Hill, which include: Robb Hudson, VP, North America; David Kaser, laser applications manager; Hector Cruz, service manager; and Jason Weaver, applications engineer.
