August 17--TRUMPF Inc. has announced town approval of its plan to construct a new laser facility at its Farmington, CT, campus. The laser factory is designed to consolidate the company's local laser R&D, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and sales. With a building footprint of about 64,000 square feet, the facility will offer more than 90,000 square feet of usable space.
"The laser factory is part of an overall growth plan," said Rolf Biekert, president and CEO of TRUMPF Inc. "The new facility increases our capacity for growth and helps us better meet the market demand for lasers."
The multimillion dollar project doubles the company's current space allocated for laser research and manufacturing of gas and solid-state laser resonators. At the the U.S. headquarters, the company maintains an R&D laboratory fully engaged in creating new, advanced lasers and operates the largest American facility for manufacturing of industrial lasers.
"Worldwide, we have a long history of providing robust and reliable lasers and laser systems for industrial material processing," adds Biekert. "The new facility will help us further advance the industrial laser technology used for cutting, welding, and marking sheet metal and other materials."
The company expects to begin site preparation and building in November 2006 and expects construction to take approximately 12 to 14 months.
