March 14--Winonics Inc. (Brea, CA; www.winonics.com) has placed an order for an Excellon Cobra Hybrid laser system.

The Cobra Hybrid laser system offers the flexibility to run all kinds of projects requiring UV laser, CO2 laser, or a combination of the two. Both the industrial diode-pumped, solid-state UV laser and the sealed, RF-excited, super-pulsed CO2 laser guarantee reliable operation for thousands of hours.

Terry Haney, the marketing director for Excellon, shares his comments: "Winonics and recently acquired Cosmotronic, part of the JR Controls group of companies, are the kind of companies we like to brand in the Specialty market segment. These companies must be able to respond to their customers' requests, commercial and military, from prototype to production, where many of the applications are very high end, and the ability to be flexible is key."

The Cobra Hybrid laser will bring quick-turn laser drilling in-house at Winonics, which has previously been outsourced. Additionally, added Bill Kennard, president/general manager of the Winonics PCB group, "it will serve the newly acquired Cosmotronic (Irvine, CA) division with capabilities for laser drilling, skiving rigid flex, and complex cover-lay routing requirements."
