March 17--Membership applications are available for charter membership in the SME Technical Community Network for the formation of the Industrial Laser Community. Charter members will be the driving mechanism of this community.
Charter membership provides the member company the opportunity to have one or more employees as leaders in technical groups--setting direction for the best topics, methods, and relationships needed to reach and educate the current and potential buyers and users of laser technology. Member companies receive ten, three-year individual memberships in SME to be used by the company or given to favored customers or prospects who could benefit from and contribute to the Laser Technology Community.
Membership fees provide first year's funding of a full-time project manager to focus on developing this new Laser Technology Community and projects generated by the Charter Member technical groups.
SME will increase marketing opportunities for laser vendors in Fabtech and other SME events--in addition to negotiating partnerships to reach new and emerging markets for laser technology. Additionally SME will develop educational programming to foster awareness and knowledge of laser technology and its variety of uses and advantages.
Charter members will organize committees to address relevant areas of interest. One committee is currently forming to promote the marketing and educational efforts of the supplier industry. This committee is currently working with SME, FMA, and AWS to formulate Laser Day at the 2006 Fabtech show in Atlanta, GA, October 31--November 2.
