The LENS CS 600 and CS 800 directed energy deposition (DED; a 3D printing method) systems from Optomec (Albuquerque, NM) come standard with controlled atmosphere chambers that allow for processing of nonreactive and reactive metals in an atmosphere that keeps moisture and oxygen levels at <10 ppm. They feature the Siemens 840D controller, which allows for 3D printing from three-axis up to simultaneous five-axis motion. These systems are also compatible with the company's latest-generation Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS) deposition head, providing higher power laser processing (up to 3 kW), interchangeable print nozzles, and variable spot sizes.
