100W diode laser module

Feb. 10, 2009
The passively cooled module is the basis for the TruDiode direct diode laser series that TRUMPF will launch midyear.

With features that include 100 watts of output from a 100 micron fiber optic and a divergence of less than 120 mrad, the performance data of the diode module that TRUMPF introduced at Photonics West are unique.

The passively cooled module is the basis for the TruDiode direct diode laser series that TRUMPF will launch midyear. Thanks to the small fiber optic diameter and the low divergence angle, the module generates a laser beam with the highest brightness.

"A few years ago, we would not have thought this output data would be possible," emphasizes Prof. Hans Joachim Eichler, head of the laser optics and photonics group at the department of Optics and Atomic Physics at the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany.

Due to its high beam quality, even in the multi-kilowatt range, the lasers in the TruDiode series are intended for welding applications where lamp-pumped solid-state lasers are currently used. With a wall plug efficiency of 40 percent, diode lasers work far more efficiently than lamp-pumped solid-state lasers.

Another advantage is the small size of the diode module of only 8 cm x 6 cm x 3 cm, which facilitates the very compact and space-saving design of the TruDiode series.
