The 11th International Symposium on Laser Precision Microfabrication (LPM) will be held concurrently with LASYS, commencing one day before this International Trade Fair for System Solutions in Laser Material Processing, which will run from 8 to 10 June 2010 in Stuttgart, Germany.

LPM will promote the exchange of know-how between basic researchers and industrial users in the area of micro-laser technologies. LPM is primarily aimed at developers and users of micro production engineering with lasers. The trend towards miniaturization of products coupled with high-precision production is continuing, posing increasingly new and bigger challenges for production technologies.

Laser technology can now carry out work steps precisely down to one micrometer without any human contact. High-speed laser micro processing machines can now read accelerations of more than 15 g (approx. 147.15 m/s², meter per square second) with positioning accuracies of less than 1 micrometer. It is possible to drill holes with diameters which are much smaller than 10 micrometers.

The range of topics in the LPM Forum will include modeling and simulation of processes, as well as process control and monitoring, nano technology, direct writing processes, ultra short laser pulse methods, surface treatment, micro structuring, 3-D micro and nano structure production, drilling and cutting in the micro range, welding, bonding, marking, trimming, lithography, production of micro construction elements, industrial/medical/biological applications, and optics for laser micro processing.

The LPM Forum is being organized by the Japan Laser Processing Society (JLPS) and Landesmesse Stuttgart, and will be held in English. Some program items such as "Industrial micro processing" and "Beam sources" will be staged jointly with the concurrent Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum 2010 (SLT'10) as special sessions. One special highlight will be devoted to the 50th anniversary of the laser; world-renowned laser pioneers will look back to the birth of the laser and will also describe the enormous development process right up to the future.

The LPM Forum is one more reason for attending the second LASYS 2010, It is ideal for international guests since the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre is located right next door to Stuttgart Airport.

The special feature of LASYS is that it spans different materials and industries such as the car industry, the electrical and electronics industry, the glass/timber/plastics industries, mechanical engineering, toolmaking and moldmaking, the medical technology industry, the optical industry, the jewelry, textile and packaging industries, and many others. O&S, International Trade Fair for Surface Treatments and Coatings, will also be held at the New Stuttgart
Trade Fair Centre from 8 to 10 June 2010.
