Bystronic (Hauppauge, NY; www.bystronicusa.com) has incorporated a Cutting Lens Sensor (CLS) detection system on machines equipped with Bylaser 4400 to 6000 watt laser sources. The innovative design of the CLS monitoring system incorporates optical photo-sensors in the z-axis to detect when a cutting lens begins to absorb too much laser energy. When triggered, the CLS system will quickly turn off the laser and prevent further deterioration of the cutting lens. CLS is a key feature for maintaining continuous process safety, especially when running in an automated lights-out operation.
