Fraunhofer IWS is organizing a weeklong International Summer School for undergraduates and Ph.D students to study fundamental and applied aspects of laser technology.

The International Summer School, held August 27-31, 2012 at the IWS' facilities in Dresden, will incorporate expert lectures, poster presentations, informal discussion sessions, and laboratory practice. Topics cover a wide range of laser processing areas: surface hardening, high-speed 2D laser cutting, 3D rapid prototyping and laser additive manufacturing, laser technology in optoelectronics, ultrashort-pulse lasers, process simulation, surface structuring, interference patterning, and high-intensity lasers.

There is no charge to attend the summer school. Submissions (half-page abstracts) must be received by May 30, and accepted participants will be notified by June 15. Go to the Fraunhofer IWS' Web site for more information.
