Mound Laser breaks ground for Ohio laser facility
Kettering, OH -- Mound Laser & Photonics Center Inc. (Mound Laser), a service provider specializing in laser-based micro-/nanofabrication and laser machining, has begun groundbreaking for a new facility in the Miami Valley Research Park (MVRP), to house its laser-based R&D and manufacturing.
The new site, for which the company received a $175,000 economic development grant from Montgomery County, will house a 20,000 ft2 building, with 10,000 ft2 of manufacturing space including 1000 ft2 for a Class 10,000 cleanroom. Construction and relocation to the new site is expected to be finished by end of April 2013.
Local media reports that the site is near to both research partner Wright State U. and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and its research labs. "There's so much change coming out of the universities and out of the Air Force [that it] allows us to capitalize on all that knowledge and all that talent," said president/CEO Larry Dosser.
The company notes that it supports the region's advanced manufacturing with more than 20 laser systems. It currently employs 43 people (up from five a decade ago), and expects to add another 30 or so workers in the next year, according to the paper.
