Laser cutting firm SSC expands into Scottish market

June 4, 2012
Laser cutting subcontract specialist SSC Laser's expansion into Scotland underscores recent enthusiasm about the health of UK engineering companies.

Hixon, Stafford, UK -- SSC Laser, one of the UK's top sub contract laser cutting specialists, will expand its operations into Scotland, opening a new facility in Motherwell at the Maxim Business Park. The move represents the company's first foray north of the border, and is the third new operation opened by the company in the past six months.

This news confirms statements made by UK laser cutting expert John Powell to ILS at this year's AKL in Aachen, regarding the health of the UK's engineering companies in what is thought by many outsiders to be a weak manufacturing economy. The company announced record turnover of over £5 million as they conduct a program of aggressive expansion throughout the UK, with plans to establish operations in every major city in the UK.

"There's a real gap in the market for a dedicated laser job shop here, and we're excited at the prospect of forming partnerships with the diverse business base in Scotland," said David France, sales manager for Scotland.

SSC Laser specializes in rapid deliveries of precision laser engineered components, in both flat and tube profiles. The firm, which also offers press-braking, laser scanning, and an in-house CAD service, recently installed a state-of-the-art Bystronic Byspeed Pro 3015 Flat Bed Laser. "We offer precision laser-cut profiles in the full range of mild steel grades as well as offering components in stainless steel, aluminum, and brass," France added. "We have a press brake facility which allows us to offer folded parts. Our Tube Laser is the latest in Tube Laser technology. We can process box section, circular hollow section, angles, flats and channels, up to a maximum length of 8500mm."
