LPKF: Record demand for laser cutting PCBs

June 25, 2012
LPKF Lasers & Electronics says it has received more than €10 million in orders through May 2012 for laser systems used to cut printed circuit boards (PCBs), nearly twice as much as in all of 2011.

Erlangen, Germany -- LPKF Lasers & Electronics says it has received more than €10 million in orders through the first five months of 2012 for laser systems used to cut printed circuit boards (PCBs). The company totaled €6 million in sales of such systems through all of 2011.

None of the new-order customers are named, with LPKF citing confidentiality agreements, but the firm said they "include big-name international electronics groups."

LPKF's UV laser cutting systems enable cutting of single printed circuit boards with extreme precision, in any shape from a larger multi-image board. The technology requires no mechanical tools or complex clamping systems, and the cutting channel can be placed right at the edge of the board because there is no harm to tracks or components.
