Capital investment opens up new markets for laser firm

Cutting Technologies, a laser cutting and engraving firm that has successfully ventured into new markets in recent years, is set for further success after investing £500,000 in groundbreaking technology.

Barnsely, South Yorkshire, England - Cutting Technologies, a laser cutting and engraving firm that has successfully ventured into new markets in recent years, is set for further success after investing £500,000 in groundbreaking technology. The company recently took delivery of a Bystronic BySprint Fiber laser, one of the first of its kind in the UK. The capabilities of the new machine will allow the company to compete for customers in new target markets, including healthcare, manufacturing, and electrical components.

This machine can cut non-ferrous materials such as copper and brass more easily and at much greater thicknesses than previous lasers. It works at quicker speeds and greater efficiency, making laser cutting a viable alternative to other manufacturing techniques like water jet cutting and punching.

Jane Robinson, director of Cutting Technologies, said: “We’ve been keeping an eye on the fiber laser market for a while, but feel the time is right now to invest. The latest machines are head-and-shoulders above the first fiber lasers and are not only much quicker and more efficient, but also allow us to do much more with metals like brass and copper. This is our first fiber laser, but we’re planning to buy another before the end of the year.

“The last few years have been challenging for those of us working in manufacturing, but we’re definitely seeing an upturn in the market and we want to be in the perfect position to capitalize on the increasing confidence. We’re investing heavily in staffing, marketing, and new equipment and have a clear strategy for growth. It’s exciting times for Cutting Technologies.”
