K & K Industries boosts laser cutting services for aircraft component makers

Bellingham, WA - K & K Industries has enhanced its manufacturing processes so it can deliver laser cutting and parts bending services to aircraft component manufacturers. The company has streamlined its CNC cutting and forming processes to deliver less than five days of turnaround time, while the industry standard is said to be more than 2 weeks.

The company's lasers have been fine-tuned to efficiently and smoothly cut up to a thickness of 1 in. for mild steel, 0.5 in. for stainless steel, and 0.5 in. for aluminum, resulting in minimum parts handling downstream of the cutting operations. Also, the company has added a third shift to facilitate fast turnaround times for customers who have urgent projects, with the possibility of completed work in one to three days if necessary.

For laser cutting, the company uses Cincinnati Corp. systems with fabricated plate steel frames that are reportedly twice as heavy as other types of laser cutting systems. Also, Dynamic Power Control accurately matches the required laser power to the desired feed rate for better edge condition and higher part accuracy, allowing machine or system components to be manufactured without expensive tooling or significant setup time and expense.
