Daventry, Northamptonshire, England - Rofin-Baasel UK has debuted its SmartCleave FI glass laser cutting process, a kerf-less separation process for strengthened (chemically and thermally) and non-strengthened glass of 100µm to 10mm in thickness and other brittle materials. The process enables cutting speeds higher than 300 mm/s. Straight, curved, angled, and chamfered contours are possible, as well as cutting of tubular or curved parts or stacks.

Cutting quality achieved with SmartCleave FI has minimal micro-cracking and chipping and a surface roughness of Ra <1µm. Parts cut using the process are said to retain high bend strength and require minimal post-processing.
