Laser-based microfabrication project launched last year progresses

Research project APPOLO will select new topics of validation activities and partners through an open call in spring 2014.

Vilnius, Lithuania - After a successful kick-off event in September last year, the European research project APPOLO has launched its new website www.appolo-fp7.eu.

The APPOLO project (full name "Hub of Application Laboratories for Equipment Assessment in Laser Based Manufacturing") seeks to bring together technologies for end-users who have demand for laser-based (micro)fabrication with the knowledge accumulated in application laboratories of research institutes and universities as well as with laser equipment manufacturers. This bringing together will facilitate faster validation of the process feasibility and adaptation or customization of the technology and equipment for manufacturing conditions.

The project is focused on: laser applications for CIGS thin-film solar cells, smart surface texturing for automotive and printing/decoration industries and for the real-3D flexible electronics. The consortium consists of 21 partners from eight different countries.

APPOLO is funded by the European Union FP7 research program as one of the "Factories of the Future" activities under the initiative "ICT Innovations for Manufacturing SMEs". The project is coordinated by the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, the largest research institution in Lithuania. New topics of validation activities and partners will be selected through an open call in spring 2014.
