European perspective on the future of photonics to be presented
Paris, France - At the upcoming Laser & Photonics Marketplace seminar on February 3, EPIC President Drew Nelson will talk about "The European Perspective: Photonics21 and Key Enabling Technologies". As president of IQE, a supplier of epitaxial wafers and substrates, and member of the Photonics21 Board of Stakeholders, Drew Nelson has a unique perspective on photonics markets, policies for technology development, and strategies for mobilizing government and corporate resources.
The talk centers on Photonics21, the European technology platform, and EPIC (the European Photonics Industry Consortium), along with the European Commission's Horizon 2020 research funding plan and its key enabling technologies (KETs).
Dr. Nelson is a member of a high-level industry group that advises the European Commission on implementing KETs, which are seen as essential for Europe to regain and maintain a global leadership position. The European Commission has identified the KETs as nanotechnology, micro-/nanoelectronics, industrial biotechnology, advanced materials, photonics, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Dr. Nelson will discuss what these technologies mean for policy and investment decisions in Europe - and for everyone interested in technology trends and opportunities in photonics.
The Laser & Photonics Marketplace seminar, organized by Laser Focus World, will be held in San Francisco on February 3 in conjunction with Photonics West.
