Laser cladding is a broadly defined term for applying metal powder or wire onto an existing metal substrate. Laser surface restoration has been maturing for over the last 20 years, the company release said. The new age laser assisted metal restoration is a significant leap from the high power rather crude method of years past. The company can now free form a metal part with the process, as a result of the technological advancements.

Joining's new metal deposition process coined LAP (Laser Applied Powder), will allow the company to offer government and private industry access to rare application services for metal surface restoration technology. The company will be offering priority service development for aerospace, fuel cell, power generation, and military applications. Joining Technologies has several programs scheduled for the new system, which will be integrated with a six-axis robot and heavy-duty rotary workstation.

Joining Technologies specializes in a variety of welding processes including high vacuum electron beam welding, GTAW, PAW brazing/soldering. The company has invested considerably in lasers, and has nearly doubled its core business as a result.
