Rapid Sheet Metal Inc. purchases new in house high power laser
Rapid Sheet Metal Inc., a Nashua, NH company specializing in sheet metal and stamped metal prototypes, has purchased a new in-house, high power laser that reduces cutting lead-times of flat parts by up to 50%, enabling the company to meet even tighter turnaround times.
"When it comes to rapid manufacturing, every day, every hour and every minute really counts," says James Jacobs, president of Rapid Sheet Metal. "By adding the capabilities of a 4000 watt laser, Rapid Sheet Metal can process as twice as many prototype sheet metal parts through the laser cutting cell as previously and can literally cut days off delivery lead times. A high power laser also provides the benefit of cutting thicker sheet metal materials and dramatically improves edge quality."
After a comprehensive review of existing laser technology, Rapid Sheet Metal purchased a Cincinnati CL-7A 4000 watt laser with the dual pallet option, complementing its 2000 watt Cincinnati CL-6 laser purchased in 2006. Cutting at speeds up to 600 inches per minute, the CL-7A can laser up to 3/8-inch thick aluminum and stainless steel, and 0.5-inch thick steel plate.
