Laser community mourns death of Bob Brown

Nov. 24, 2008
The field of laser materials processing technology has lost a valued contributor and one of the truly nice people of our community. Dr. Robert T. Brown, Bob to his legion of friends, passed away on November 19, 2008, as the result of an accident.

For more than 30 years Bob was a member of the Technical Staff at United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, CT. There he was a Principle Investigator on programs involving advanced lasers and elecrtro-opitc systems. He was the author of many papers, patents and book chapters and a consultant on the uses of lasers in manufacturing processes. In his retirement he continued teaching and he was in the process of developing a course to teach the basics of laser based manufacturing systems, indicative of his desire to promote the technology.

Now available from Laser Cladding Services Inc., LaserHeat Pinpoint Treating is a high-powered laser pin-point heat treating process that extends the lifecycle of critical parts.
